How Retirement Pay is Calculated
Active Duty Multiplier: For Active Duty, you receive a percentage of your High-3 average base pay for every year of service (2.5% for Legacy, 2.0% for BRS).
Guard/Reserve Multiplier: Guard and Reserve calculations are point-based. Your total retirement points are divided by 360, then multiplied by the multiplier rate (2.5% for Legacy, 2.0% for BRS).
Age of Receipt: Active Duty members begin receiving their pension immediately upon retirement. Guard and Reserve members generally begin receiving their pension at Age 60 (though this can be reduced by qualifying deployment time).
High-3 Average: This is the average of your highest 36 months of basic pay prior to retirement. This calculator uses current active duty pay tables to provide a baseline estimate.
Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) & RC-SBP: SBP pays your surviving spouse an annuity (55% of the selected base amount) after you pass away. The standard premium is 6.5%. For Guard and Reserve members, an additional actuarial RC premium is added depending on the age of the beneficiary and the election option chosen.
